This week

Dahlias, the last of the cosmos, Michaelmas daisies, rudbeckia, scabious, amaranthus, rosehips from the hedge, and sedum going over.

That's what's in the buckets at Stem & Stonecrop, the flower shop on the high street in Totnes. About half of it came out of my allotment and the field this week; the rest I bought in to go with it.

The shop

Grown here, not shipped in.

I'm Ines. Stem & Stonecrop is my flower shop on the high street in Totnes. About half of what I sell I grow myself, on an allotment and a borrowed field just outside town, and I buy in the rest to go alongside it.

That's why the shop is different every week. When the sweet peas finish, they finish. When the dahlias start, the whole bench turns over. I'd rather show you what is actually here than the same five bouquets all year.

Previous weeks

What was on the bench the last few Fridays. Each week gets written over the one before.

  1. Dahlias, zinnias, cosmos, the last sweet peas, ammi, sunflowers and mint.

  2. Dahlias, snapdragons, nicotiana, cosmos, bronze fennel and sedum just colouring.

  3. Dahlias, zinnias, larkspur, phlox, sunflowers and scented geranium leaf.

  4. Dahlias, sweet peas, cornflowers, scabious, dill and the first of the rudbeckia.

What people come in for.

  • Hands tying a bunch of garden flowers with brown string over brown paper on a shop bench

    Birthdays

A bunch of whatever is best that week, tied in brown paper, delivered on the Friday or ready to collect from the shop. Tell me who it's for and I'll do the rest.

    Order birthday flowers
  • A quiet white and green posy lying on a bare white bench.

    Sympathy flowers

Quiet flowers, mostly white and green, made carefully and sent with a card in your own words. If you would rather talk it through first, come into the shop and we'll do it together.

    Weddings

Seasonal flowers from the field for local weddings, and a plain guide to what they usually cost, written down before you've had to ask.

Friday

Deliveries go out on Fridays, around Totnes and Dartington, once the week's flowers are in.

From the field, most days

I post on Instagram most days: the field first thing, the bench on a Friday, what has gone over and what has just started. You'll find me there as Stem & Stonecrop.

Have a look there for the pictures. When you want some of it, order here, because nobody can order from a photo.
